A look forward to 2026
Over the past year, alongside colleagues in the Labour Rural Research Group (LRRG), I’ve continued to work closely with local farmers. I’ve met with more than 50 farmers across North West Leicestershire and have consistently pressed the Government to rethink its Inheritance and Property relief proposals.

It was great to re-establish the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) alongside a number of cross party colleagues.
12 young people (aged 35 and under) a week are dying suddenly in the UK from a previously undiagnosed heart condition. Of these deaths, figures show 80% of them will occur with no prior symptoms.
CRY is calling for the National Screening Committee to review and reconsider evidence supporting the roll-out of a national screening programme, and for a national screening strategy for the prevention of young sudden cardiac death. When a similar programme was introduced in Italy in the 1980s, it saw a reduction in young people dying of 85%.
We will be working closely with organisations across the UK to look at best practise, supported by CRY, to help prevent as many tragedies as possible. That includes sporting organisations, health teams and other charities.
I previously spoke to The Mirror about why this campaign means so much to myself and many others across the UK. You can read the article here: www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/calls-more-screenings-12-young-36447529#comments-wrapper ... See MoreSee Less

We welcome the Police and Crime Commissioner’s decision to finally follow the advice of the Chief Constable, Leicestershire’s Labour MPs, and the Councillors on the Police and Crime Panel to put forward a budget which protects our police service and reduces the need for cuts.
Following the unanimous veto of his previous budget proposal, including by members of his own party, the PCC was forced to reconsider his plans that would have created a £4.7m budget deficit for Leicestershire Police and seen the force lose around £6m over the next four years, equivalent to over 140 frontline officers.
Whilst the right result has eventually been reached, the PCC has wasted a significant amount of time and resource in getting there. The Government are in the process of abolishing Police and Crime Commissioners so that we can invest more in neighbourhood policing to make our communities safer. In Leicestershire, this cannot come soon enough.
We commend the hard work of the Chief Constable in helping bring about this change and indeed the police officers and staff that keep our streets safe, all too often without the resources they need. Today’s decision doesn’t make their job any easier, but it does limit the damage the PCC tried to cause.

☕️ Coffee Afternoon to discuss Unadopted Estates!
I know how frustrating unadopted estates can be for local people. I have already worked on behalf of residents across North West Leicestershire, including in Kegworth, Ibstock and Hugglescote, raising concerns about new developments where people are left with unfinished roads, inadequate drainage, and high, opaque management fees.
Back in March, I co-sponsored a 10-minute rule bill on unadopted estates (Housing Estates Bill). I’m really pleased that the Minister has now announced that two-thirds of the bill’s proposals will be taken forward through consultations on how to reduce the use of private estate management arrangements.
With the two consultations now live, I want to hear your views at an upcoming coffee afternoon on how we can:
✅Protect people from unfair charges.
✅Stop estates being left unadopted.
This is a key step towards ending 'Fleecehold' and giving residents a better deal. You can register to attend below: www.amandahack.com/campaigns/fleecehold-coffee-afternoon/ ... See MoreSee Less

Thank you so much for the opportunity to hear the children during their music lessons this morning at Heather Primary School - Social Media, it was lovely to hear.
In a recent debate on the petition to introduce more play into the key stage 1 curriculum, I mentioned the power of music and sequencing in wider learning.
The best bit though was the smiling faces. ... See MoreSee Less

265 of you in North West Leicestershire signed an e-petition supporting a play-based model of learning for our little ones. So, when the petition came to be debated in Westminster Hall, I was proud to speak on it 👇
Our youngest learners deserve an education that nurtures curiosity, creativity, wellbeing, and a genuine love of learning.
Some of the biggest scientific discoveries came from creativity, such as Einstein's theory of relativity, and listening to music encourages the brain to engage with patterns and sequencing, which is vital when it comes to core subjects like maths. Activities like dancing, or even playing with Lego, allows children to express themselves, to explore, and to try different things.
Children will direct us in how they want to learn, and we have to give them that opportunity to express themselves. I will continue to engage wherever possible in further conversations around this. ... See MoreSee Less

Thank you to Noble Foods for hosting a visit to their egg packing centre.
It was useful to learn more about what goes into processing eggs in the UK and the work that goes into the Lion Egg Standard.
Thanks to the NFU for arranging the Parliamentary Scheme and the work that goes into ensuring that Parliamentarians have an invaluable insight into Farming, Food Production, Food Security, Standards and Safety.

In December I visited Arsenal FC’s Training Ground to hear from their Team Doctor, Zafar Iqbal, on the work he’s been doing to promote CPR and defibrillator education amongst young people.
It was great to hear from him about his passion and dedication to the cause, he is leading the way and has been an advocate throughout his long career as a club doctor.
It was also great to have Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, Beth Mead and Alessi Russo pop in to hear the work we’re doing in Parliament on Cardiac Risk in Young People.
Every week in the UK, 12 young people die suddenly from an undiagnosed heart condition.
That’s why I reformulated the Cardiac Risk in the Young APPG at the start of this year alongside Cardiac Risk in the Young, and it’s a privilege to be able to Chair the group and to carry this crucial work forward.
Over the past year I have also been engaging with sporting bodies, charities, campaigners and organisations like the British Heart Foundation and Resus UK, and I look forward to building on this even further.

3 million disgusting nudified images were produced by Grok in just 11 days.
As my colleague Anneliese Dodds rightly said, existing safeguards don’t work; we need preventative measures for AI.
I’ve signed her letter calling for strong AI regulation to prevent online harm.
Thank you to all of you that have reached out with your concerns already, I’m interested to hear your views on social media and the use of AI 👇 ... See MoreSee Less
