129 and 125 Bus Service Update!

I am really pleased to say that I have today had confirmation that the 129 service will continue to run following new agreements that Leicestershire County Council have now reached. This follows the recent announcement that Diamond Buses intended to cancel the service. The new operator, Arriva, will take over the route on 2nd June with slight timetable tweaks, which will be available next week.

Diamond were due to cease running the 125 Service from 2nd June; however, this has been extended until 14th July to allow Leicestershire County Council to begin re-tendering this service. I will share any additional information on the 125 route as soon as this is available to me.

As a government, we are committed to safeguarding our bus services, which is why we have already provided an additional £8 million to Leicestershire County Council to help end the postcode lottery when it comes to our local buses.

Since my election, I've been working hard both in the Chamber and behind the scenes to push for the reinstatement of the Ivanhoe line, and my inbox is often stacked with emails from constituents who share my drive and determination to bring passenger rail back to North West Leicestershire.

Today, I raised again the impact that the lack of direct access to rail is having on my constituents, and how increasing the connectivity of our railways is a crucial step forward to securing the economic growth we need in our region.

I am pleased that the Minister has agreed to meet with me, following my question in the Chamber, to discuss this pressing issue further.

Any further update regarding the 129 bus please?

The more houses that they insist on being built in Ashby when there are so few jobs based here, the greater the need for effective public transport or new transport links. Ashby is being filled with commuters who are driving everywhere because their work is based in the surrounding cities and there are no shops in reasonable walking distance from the new estates. The long term impact of this is massive and not given any thought. Just because house builders make more money from houses built here. Improve housing in the cities or give us useful public transport in and around the area. There needs to be some kind of joined up plan. New towns is a good idea, but builders won’t invest in it while they can get away with adding new estates to “desirable areas” just because the government want to shout about numbers of houses. Sorry, that was a bit of a rant, but it’s really starting to bother me that we are creating more problems than we are solving.

The Ivanhoe line runs directly behind the king power stadium. If it was to reopen in both directions then it would be ideal for football supporters. Also not too far to walk for rugby fans as well.

Calm down. I wonder if you will shout when if it slows down

Good 👍 so maybe don't hammer the disabled 😉

Isn’t that before national insurance for employers went up in April?

I recently visited Worthington Primary School to see their new free breakfast club, one of the first of 750 we’re launching across the UK to support parents and children!

That means:
✅ 30 minutes free childcare daily
✅ Saving families up to £450 a year
✅ Making sure children start the day with hungry minds, not hungry tummies

It was lovely to meet with the children and learn more about the fantastic work of the dedicated teachers at the school.

This takes nothing away from the school visited but nation wide there is a comparison to be made. Does this go to every family despite being rich or poor, unlike the winter fuel taken from everyone, rich or poor.

It's a fabulous small village school, with a family feel, amazing staff and head teacher.

What a brilliant school! I am sure you were very impressed.

Today, I’m proud to recognise International Nurses Day by honouring the incredible work of nurses.

Every day, nursing staff go above and beyond to care for us and our loved ones during our most vulnerable moments. We are grateful for their dedication and professionalism, today and always.

Will you push to reform Nurse training and restart the excellent Nursing Colleges? Of course Nurses should be able to pursue degrees etc but a Nursing qualification from the RCN would be right. Then we could employ nurses to be nurses first and management later. Introduce Matrons back on wards not the near non-existent types that exist today. In order to back professional dedicated nurses we need to weed out those that are letting the profession down. The NHS is in crisis reliant as witnessed from the patients side and many ex-NHS employees who still work in health but never again directly under NHS management. Happy clappy days are for Primary School not the workforce, they get in the way of peoples actual jobs.
