£8 million funding boost to deliver better busses across Leicestershire

Amanda Hack welcomed the new funding to transform bus services across Leicestershire, helping to end the postcode lottery on public transport.

Last week the Secretary of State for Transport, announced new investments aiming to improve popular bus routes, safeguard rural services, and encourage bus use for shopping, socialising, and commuting. This new funding will help prevent service reductions on vulnerable routes, addressing the current issue of unreliable services across North West Leicestershire.

This Labour Government is working to enable all local authorities to regain control of their bus services. The Buses Bill will be introduced in the coming weeks, granting local leaders more authority to shape services according to their communities’ needs. Local authorities will have the power to create modern and integrated bus networks that prioritise passengers in local decision-making.

Welcoming the new investment, Amanda Hack said:

“Many constituents have raised concerns about inconsistent services and routes completely cut or rerouted. This has left many people struggling to get around and stay connected with friends, family, and local businesses.

I am due to meet with several operators in the new year and will speak with Local Authorities to discuss our routes and services in more detail. These discussions will allow us to explore potential improvements and better align our services with community needs.

I encourage all residents to complete my transport survey. This will help shape these discussions by using your voices to guide the changes we need for our local services right here in North West Leicestershire.”

Alongside this new investment, the funding allocation process has been reformed. Cutting this red tape will see cash distributed based on local needs, levels of deprivation, and population size. This change will eliminate the competition between areas, which previously wasted resources and caused delays in decision-making.

Don’t forget to complete my Transport Survey, I want to hear about routes local to you: https://www.amandahack.com/transport-survey/

🚌 Bus Service Updates 🚌

Following my meeting with the Director of Environment and Transport at Leicestershire County Council on Wednesday 30th July, I am disappointed that feedback from both myself and residents seemingly has not been taken on board regarding the changes to bus services being brought forward by Arriva.

I am now calling on Leicestershire County Council and Cllr Charles Whitford, the Cabinet Lead for Highways, Transport and Waste, to provide a strategy that will actually enhance provision in North West Leicestershire, not continue to cut it. For too long our communities have been disconnected bus route by bus route.

I cannot accept the services that have come forward, especially given we have provided £8 million of additional funding to enhance and safeguard provision.
