North West Leicestershire Defib Dash!
I’m really excited to launch the North West Leicestershire Defib Dash which will take place between 17th and 23rd November. This is a community audit of our local defib network. All you need to do is find your nearest publicly accessible defibrillator and ‘Dash’ to it (you could walk, run or cycle, just don’t use your car!), timing your journey.
Why? Every minute without CPR or Defibrillation reduces the chance of survival by 10% so it’s vital to raise awareness of where your nearest lifesaving defib is and where our deserts of coverage are. It will also allow us to ensure The Circuit, the national register of defibs, is accurate and up to date. (www.defibfinder.uk/)
You can register for a free campaign pack now ahead of the Defib Dash Week of Action and secure your place at our launch event on Saturday 15th November. (Details to follow to those who register).
Got questions? have a read through the FAQs online, or get in touch with my office.

Really useful to get an update on Monday from Donna Ockenden on the progress made so far in the investigation into maternity service failings at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust.
It was sobering to hear from families that joined the meeting to share their experiences with maternity services. I will continue to work closely with the national maternity and neonatal investigation and affected families to drive the changes needed in care and support.
For those who have contacted me so far from the constituency about this, please be assured that I will continue to support you, and if you have not been in touch yet, you are welcome to at any time. I can be contacted at [email protected] or on 01530569010.
As this is such a sensitive topic, I want to highlight the charity Sands, who support anyone affected by pregnancy or baby loss for as long as they need it: www.sands.org.uk/support-you/how-we-offer-support

I caught up with Sarah from the British Heart Foundation to talk about heart health and actions the government are taking to help improve heart health and overall outcomes.
Cardiovascular disease can lead to cardiac arrest, and with us living in a rural area, it's so important we have access to local defibs near to where we live, work and socialise.
Every minute without CPR or Defibrillation reduces the chance of survival by 10% so it’s vital to raise awareness of where your nearest lifesaving defib is and where our deserts of coverage are.

I’ve been really concerned about the high prices that learner drivers are having to pay for a driving test. That’s why I’ve been leading calls to stop driving test swapping - something which has exploded in recent years - and ensure that only learners can book their test.
While learners often have genuine reasons to change their test date, the system of unlimited swaps has been exploited by bots and third parties that hoover up tests as soon as they become available.
Hardworking people who simply want a chance to take their test are being taken advantage of, which is both unfair and deeply damaging to learner drivers across the country.
Together with my colleagues, I am backing the Government in taking the strongest possible action to tackle this issue and bring test prices back down to normal levels, ensuring driving tests are as accessible and affordable as possible.

🚨 Social landlords in England must now fix emergency hazards within 24 hours 🚨
This is the first phase of AwaabsLaw, introduced in memory of two-year-old Awaab Ishak, who tragically died after prolonged exposure to mould in his social housing home.
The new law protects tenants from dangerous conditions like damp and mould, ensuring landlords act fast when lives are at risk.
Under the new rules, social landlords must:
✅ Investigate mould within 10 working days
✅ Make homes safe within 5 days after inspection
✅ Provide written updates within 3 days
✅ Fix emergencies within 24 hours ... See MoreSee Less

I'm proud to be part of a Government championing women's health ✊
The morning-after pill is now available free of charge from NHS pharmacies.
This marks the biggest change to sexual health services since the 1960s. A huge step forward for women's reproductive rights and access to care. 💊
We also announced changes last week that will now see Menopause screening officially incorporated into NHS health checks in England for the first time.
The aim is to identify women who may benefit from advice and support, including treatment, such as hormone replacement therapy (HRT), drugs to combat hot-flushes, and counselling. ... See MoreSee Less
