I have co-signed Grahame Morris MP’s letter to the Rt Hon Darren Jones MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, calling for urgent action to address the unfairness faced by members of the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme (BCSSS).
Thanks to the Labour government’s historic decision to transfer the £1.5 billion Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme reserve, around 1,500 former miners and their families have already seen a much-needed boost to their pensions.
I am urging the government to:
✅Waive the final £2.3 billion payment from the BCSSS reserve, thereby ensuring fairer pensions for members who served in essential roles within the coal industry.
It’s time to deliver parity for everyone in our coalfield communities

📢 Great news for families!
This Government is rolling out 1,000 Family Hubs by 2028 to support parents and children under 5.
We’re fortunate to already have a Family Hub in the heart of Coalville. I’m excited for us to build on that and expand provision both in Coalville and across the constituency.
These hubs will offer services like parenting classes, early learning support, breastfeeding advice & more—helping every child get the best start in life! 💛

Those who try to divide us will always fail.
