Amanda Hack welcomes Parental Leave Review after meeting with Dads
- Amanda Hack MP met with Dads from across North West Leicestershire in April to mark the 22nd anniversary of Labour’s Paternity Leave introduction.
- They discussed the challenges facing dads today, including limited paternity leave.
- 1 in 3 dads are not taking paternity leave for financial reasons, and just 1% of mothers and 4% of fathers are taking up shared parental leave entitlements.
Amanda Hack has welcomed the Government’s recently-announced review of the parental leave and pay system. This follows a meeting earlier this year with a group of local dads who shared their personal experiences and called for more support on paternity rights.
The review, which is now taking evidence, aims to evaluate how effectively the existing system supports families. It seeks new information from individuals, experts, and organisations that has not previously been submitted to the Government, covering areas such as maternal health, childcare, and ensuring the best start in life.
Welcoming the review, Amanda Hack said:
“Having met with local dads earlier this year at Ashby Ivanhoe FC to understand more about their lived experiences of being a parent, I’m really pleased that we are now undertaking a broad review of the whole Parental Leave system. Many told me they would love to spend more time at home during those first few months, being around for more of those early milestones. As a parent myself, I understand how precious that time is and how quickly it passes.
That’s why I encourage every parent or expert with insight to contribute to this review. I want families to know that this review is a real opportunity to shape a system that better supports them from day one, and that we are committed to making sure parents receive the best possible support to balance their work and home lives.”
The call for evidence is open from 1st July 2025 to 26th August 2025. Responses can be submitted here: https://www.gov.uk/government/calls-for-evidence/parental-leave-and-pay-review-call-for-evidence

🚌 159 Hinckley to Coalville Bus Service Update 🚌
As part of my commitment to continue battling for better buses to connect North West Leicestershire, I am pleased to say that I have recently received an update from Leicestershire County Council that the previous 159 route from Hinckley to Coalville has now been put out to tender.
This means that a return of this service is currently being considered, which is fantastic news following the cut to this route 3 years ago, which I know impacted many learners at FE colleges. Once I have further news on the progress of this, I will of course, share this with you.
I will continue to push for our fair share of the additional £8 million uplift in funding that has been provided to Leicestershire County Council by this government and listening to your feedback about our bus services locally.

This is a huge moment for healthcare in North West Leicestershire. Our communities have long needed a more accessible and joined-up NHS, and this plan will deliver exactly that. With services on people’s doorsteps, residents might not need to travel to Leicester, Derby or Nottingham for vital care in the future. This is about putting patients first.
We’re lucky that locally we have a fantastic set of GP practices and the GP Federation, who are all working together to provide better patient care and trial innovative ways of working. We must support them with a modern, forward-looking healthcare system which builds on their work.
