Amanda Hack welcomes government’s £2.7 million investment to boost local transport in Leicestershire

The Government has announced a further boost to local transport that should give local people greater access to jobs, education and public services.
Another Cash Boost for Local Transport in Leicestershire

I’m pleased to welcome the Government’s £2.7 million investment to improve local transport across Leicestershire, part of a wider £104 million package to strengthen connections in towns and rural areas across the country.

That’s on top of last year’s £8 million uplift for better buses across Leicestershire.

Good local transport links are a lifeline for so many people in North West Leicestershire. Reliable bus routes and better accessibility mean people can get to work, visit family, reach shops, and attend vital appointments.

That’s why I’m disappointed that Leicestershire County Council has continued to allow service cuts in our area, despite receiving significant funding to protect and improve rural connectivity.

There are no more excuses, our Labour Government is providing the cash, and I’ll keep fighting to make sure North West Leicestershire gets its fair share.

For too long, other parts of the county have seen more investment while our communities have faced repeated cuts. It’s time for that to change.
This funding gives the County Council a real opportunity to deliver better buses and stronger connections for local people.

It’s time we got the services our area deserves.

The Help to Save sch

The Help to Save scheme, originally due to close in 2027, will now be made permanent and extended to parents and carers on Universal Credit from 2028.

Described by Martin Lewis as “unbeatable,” the scheme lets eligible savers put away up to £2,400 over four years, with a £1,200 government bonus added on top — helping families build up savings and a financial cushion for emergencies like a broken boiler.

From 2028, the scheme will be opened up to an additional 1.5 million people, including Universal Credit claimants with children in education and carers who provide at least 35 hours of care each week, offering extra support with the cost of living.
