🚨 Weather Warning: Possible Flooding Ahead 🚨
An Amber Weather Warning for heavy rain is in place on Friday, with up to 40mm - 80mm of rainfall possible across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland. 🌧
I have been in touch with the Environment Agency (EA) today ahead of the weather that is forecast for our area over the coming days, especially tomorrow.
We are likely to see localised surface water flooding with the potential for flooding from rivers and watercourses. Where required the EA will issue Flood Warnings for different locations over the coming hours and days.
Please check for alerts and warnings here: check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk/ and sign up for flood alerts here: www.gov.uk/get-flood-warnings
Environment Agency teams are out checking on flood defences, clearing any river blockages and closely monitoring river levels across Leicestershire. These teams work around the clock to reduce the risk of flooding.
Now’s the time to prepare and stay safe:
✅ Sign up for flood alerts
✅ Move valuables and important items to upper floors
✅ Check your emergency plans and keep key numbers handy
If flooding does occur:
⚠ Listen for local radio/TV updates and check travel before heading out
⚠ Never drive through flood water
⚠ Avoid walking through flooded areas
⚠ Turn off electricity if water enters your home
You can also contact Floodline for advice.
Floodline helpline:
Telephone: 0345 988 1188
Textphone: 0345 602 6340
Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Please remain vigilant and take steps to protect yourself from the risk of flooding. In an emergency, always call 999. ... See MoreSee Less

I welcome the announcement from this Labour Government of the abolition of Police and Crime Commissioners that will save the taxpayer millions, as well as help fund our vital frontline services, which will always be our priority.
The role was an experiment introduced by the Lib Dem-Tory Coalition, with the current PCC being mired in controversy. This has distracted from the priorities that matter to my constituents, like restoring a local police station and expanding neighbourhood policing, which is something I will continue to push for.
Whilst I understand the strong feeling from the former Conservative and now Reform PCC for Leicestershire on the abolition of his role, it seems he is already at odds with his new party, who welcomed the announcement in the Commons this afternoon. ... See MoreSee Less

I’ve been increasingly concerned about the rising costs learner drivers face when trying to book a driving test. That’s why I’ve been leading calls for urgent action to tackle driving test “swapping”, a practice that has surged in recent years, and to make sure only genuine learners can book and manage their test slots.
That's why last month, I wrote a letter to the Minister for Local Transport alongside 38 of my colleagues, urging the Government to take action to bring prices back down to normal levels.
Earlier today, the Secretary of State for Transport announced new measures to curb this exploitation, including limits on test swaps and ensuring only learner drivers will be able to book tests.
As well as changing who can book tests, examiners from the Ministry of Defence will be brought into the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency to help reduce the backlog, and additional incentives will be offered to current examiners to encourage them to remain in their roles.
These new steps will help bring test prices back under control and ensure that driving tests remain accessible, fair, and affordable for everyone working towards their licence.

I was delighted to be part of the official opening of Coalville Post Office on Friday, restoring an important service to the town centre.
It’s also great to see Krishan Joshi return as Postmaster for Coalville. When I first met him after the closure of the Ashby Road branch, he shared his vision to bring these services back to Marlborough Square, and I was pleased to support his efforts.
The Post Office provides vital services, from parcels to banking and acts as a hub for local trade. It’s fantastic to see it once again at the heart of our community.
Post Office opening times
Mon - Fri 09:00 – 17:30
Saturday 09:00 – 12:30
Sunday Closed
Services include but are not limited too:
✅ Drop & Go
✅ Parcelforce Express Services
✅ Post & Go

It was good to be at this great annual concert to listen such talented musicians at the Holy Trinity.
Such a wonderful arrangement this year.
My father in law played pipes and drums with the Seaforth pipeband for years before retiring from the band, so it’s always good to hear them play.
Congratulations to Brian Senton and all the volunteers who make this such a special event to mark Remembrance. ... See MoreSee Less

Financial literacy is now set to become a core part of the national curriculum for the first time in primary! 🧠💡
I’m proud that Labour’s Curriculum and Assessment Review will be equipping kids with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve and thrive.
Just the day before the announcement I chaired a roundtable on ‘Financial Education and Assessment’ that brought together fellow MPs, Young Enterprise and AQA.
We discussed how we can better equip young people with the confidence and capability to manage their money and make informed financial decisions.
Supporting young people to build the numeracy and financial skills they need for life is so important, and I will continue to engage with Ministers, key organisations, and schools on how best to deliver this. ... See MoreSee Less
