This afternoon I visited residents on Grace Dieu Road who were affected by last night’s flooding alongside Cllr Peter Moult.

I’ve already reported the sewage that surfaced through the manholes, and a street clean is scheduled to be completed by the end of Monday at the latest. I’ve also reported several blocked highway drains, now clogged with debris, to Leicestershire County Council.

I’ll be writing formally to Severn Trent about the ongoing sewage flooding issues residents are facing, and will continue working with the relevant agencies to push for a long-term solution.

I’ve reported the broken manhole cover to Severn Trent Water this morning on Bardon Road in Coalville. They have assured me a team will be out within the next 4 hours to conduct an inspection and emergency repair. (UPDATE 17:00 15/11 -> Further work is required, and STW will be returning to complete the repair asap. A board has been placed over the hole in the interim, with additional cones surrounding it. Please take care when driving past.)

Please take care whilst driving along Bardon Road until the repair is completed. Some cones have been placed around this in the interim already by a member of the public or highways team.

They have also raised a job to clear what looks to be a blockage and conduct a clean up of the area in the next 72 hours.

I’m also aware of what looks like the pumps at Lockington Bridge not working at all or efficiently. I have spoken to the County about formally closing the road and I will be writing to Leicestershire County Council about this issue as this is something that is a regular occurrence.

That’s alongside speaking to Severn Trent about the reports of drains in Whitwick which also caused some localised flooding last night around Grace Dieu Road.

I will continue to liaise with the Environment Agency to monitor the impact on our local waterways over the next few hours and coming days.

Last week, I met with the Minister for Industry, Chris McDonald MP, alongside other Coalfield Labour MPs to discuss pension justice for British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme (BCSSS) members.

This was followed by a meeting yesterday with the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, James Murray MP, to continue our push for the return of the £2.3bn investment reserve to pension scheme members. This could result in an uplift of up to 50% in members pensions.

I will continue to engage in these conversations wherever possible, and press for progress to support the 770 BCSSS pensioners in North West Leicestershire.

🚨 Weather Warning: Possible Flooding Ahead 🚨

An Amber Weather Warning for heavy rain is in place on Friday, with up to 40mm - 80mm of rainfall possible across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland. 🌧

I have been in touch with the Environment Agency (EA) today ahead of the weather that is forecast for our area over the coming days, especially tomorrow.

We are likely to see localised surface water flooding with the potential for flooding from rivers and watercourses. Where required the EA will issue Flood Warnings for different locations over the coming hours and days.

Please check for alerts and warnings here: check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk/ and sign up for flood alerts here: www.gov.uk/get-flood-warnings

Environment Agency teams are out checking on flood defences, clearing any river blockages and closely monitoring river levels across Leicestershire. These teams work around the clock to reduce the risk of flooding.

Now’s the time to prepare and stay safe:
✅ Sign up for flood alerts
✅ Move valuables and important items to upper floors
✅ Check your emergency plans and keep key numbers handy

If flooding does occur:
⚠ Listen for local radio/TV updates and check travel before heading out
⚠ Never drive through flood water
⚠ Avoid walking through flooded areas
⚠ Turn off electricity if water enters your home

You can also contact Floodline for advice.
Floodline helpline:

I welcome the announcement from this Labour Government of the abolition of Police and Crime Commissioners that will save the taxpayer millions, as well as help fund our vital frontline services, which will always be our priority.

The role was an experiment introduced by the Lib Dem-Tory Coalition, with the current PCC being mired in controversy. This has distracted from the priorities that matter to my constituents, like restoring a local police station and expanding neighbourhood policing, which is something I will continue to push for.

Whilst I understand the strong feeling from the former Conservative and now Reform PCC for Leicestershire on the abolition of his role, it seems he is already at odds with his new party, who welcomed the announcement in the Commons this afternoon.
