Good news for new property occupants!
Back in March, I co-sponsored a 10-minute rule bill on unadopted estates (Housing Estates Bill). I’m really pleased that the Minister has now announced that two-thirds of the bill’s proposals will be taken forward through consultations on how to reduce the use of private estate management arrangements.
I know how frustrating unadopted estates can be for local people. I have already worked on behalf of residents across North West Leicestershire, including in Kegworth, raising concerns about new developments where people are left with unfinished roads, inadequate drainage, and high, opaque management fees.
The Housing Minister has now announced two consultations to:
Protect people from unfair charges.
Stop estates being left unadopted.
This is a key step towards ending fleecehold and giving residents a better deal. You can have your say via the links below:

Huge Congratulations to Rob Nixon on his CBE in the New Years Honours list.
It was great to be able to work with him some 20+ years ago and then again when he became the Chief Constable until his retirement. A career dedicated to policing and a thoroughly deserved award.Congratulations from Leicestershire Police to our former Chief Constable Rob Nixon who has been awarded a CBE in His Majesty the King’s New Year Honours List.
The honour, which is for services to policing and criminal justice, recognises Mr Nixon’s 32-year career in the force as well as the national role which he took on in 2023 as the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) lead for criminal justice.
Speaking today, Mr Nixon, who retired from his roles in March 2025, described the news as “deeply humbling”.
Reflecting on the recognition, he also paid tribute to “exceptional” colleagues and partners who he has worked alongside.

It was good to visit the Control Centre of Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service this morning and meet with the Chief Fire Officer and a Leicestershire FBU rep.
In light of the new funding settlement I wanted to catch up with the team and understand the long term financial implications on the service. The new settlement will make a difference, which is good news.
It was useful to hear about the changes in technology and how the service is adapting to the pressures caused by the risk posed by flooding in Leicestershire.
I will continue to work with Government to do what I can to support our amazing colleagues in the Fire Service.
I also took the opportunity to thank the team for the work they do to keep us safe, not only throughout the festive season but 24/7.
