Earlier this year, North West Leicestershire secured £334,000 of investment in local flood defence schemes to better protect homes and businesses in Long Whatton, Breedon and Diseworth.
This cash injection formed part of the government’s record investment of £10.5 billion until 2036 to protect more than 800,000 properties across the UK.

Across the UK, 151 schemes have been completed in the last 12 months, protecting 24,000 homes from flooding.

I recently met with Leicestershire County Council and the Environment Agency to gain an update on these schemes and discuss progress in other areas.

It’s great to hear that the scheme in Breedon is on track to be completed by the end of the year. There’s also some progress underway in Packington, Measham, and other areas to help reduce risks and improve early warning systems.

With Flood Awareness Week upon us next week, I encourage everyone to look into their local flood risk and consider the measures they can take to be prepared in case the worst should happen.
Flooding is not a new threat for us, but it demands action. I’ll continue working hard to make sure our communities are better protected and better prepared for the future.

Lovely to host a cof

Lovely to host a coffee morning in Agar Nook today, chatting with residents about the closure of Lloyds Bank, ASB, national politics, and much more.

I also spent time out on the doorstep speaking with local people about the issues that matter most to them.

A big thank you to everyone who came along to the coffee morning and to those who took the time to speak with us afterwards, it was great to hear your views.

I have now written aImage attachment

I have now written a second letter to the Competition and Markets Authority regarding local fuel prices.

The scale of the price differences we have, and continue to see across our area, compared with nearby communities, is worrying. I remain very concerned about the possibility of unfair pricing at the pumps and the impact this is having on household budgets.

I have asked for stronger scrutiny and clearer answers on what action will be taken to ensure fairness for motorists.

You can check and compare local fuel prices here:

We have recently passed legislation to compel every forecourt to register and report price changes within 30 mins.

If you’re seeing big price differences locally, please do share them with me; your experiences are really important in an ever changing market.
