Today I have submitted a formal appeal to LINK regarding their Banking Hub assessment for Coalville, supported by both the local council ward members, where the closing Lloyds branch is based.
The appeal sets out the areas where I believe Coalville meets the criteria for a Banking Hub and challenges some of the assessment data used. Especially around the number of small businesses, and also highlights the number of vulnerable people within the local vicinity who rely on in-person banking services.
Below is the covering letter of the full appeal, which has been submitted to LINK.
Access to in-person banking remains vital for residents who can’t easily travel, aren’t confident online, and for small businesses that rely on cash services. The closure of Lloyds in Coalville will force people to travel further for face-to-face support and risks leaving our community behind. I will continue pushing LINK to reverse the original decision and allow a Banking Hub to be established in Coalville.

I’m pleased to see that, following the Labour Rural Research Group’s letter to the Chancellor and the Secretary of State for Energy Security & Net Zero about rising heating oil prices, the Government has now written to the home heating oil and LPG industry, warning them not to exploit the current volatility.
I know how these price spikes are hitting people locally. Many of you have already shared your experiences with me, and I’ll be raising these cases directly with the Financial Secretary to the Treasury tomorrow during a meeting on this issue.
This follows the question I raised in the House on Thursday last week. You can watch it here: 👉 fb.watch/FLEc3KxPtJ/
I've also raised this directly with the Minister for Energy during conversations yesterday and the Department for Business and Trade this morning too.
