Big changes to crime-fighting laws are here and they’re designed to make our communities safer.
The Crime and Policing Act has now received Royal Assent, introducing the biggest overhaul of crime-fighting powers in a generation:
Repeat and antisocial offenders can be banned from town centres Tech bosses face fines of up to £70,000 per post for failing to remove content promoting knife sales Mandatory two-step ID checks for online knife purchases Retailers must report bulk or suspicious blade purchases online Tougher sentencing, up to 7 years for carrying a knife with intent to harm Up to 10 years in prison for exploiting children into criminal activity New offence created for assaulting retail workers Victims of online stalking will have the right to learn their stalker’s identity at the earliest opportunityThese measures are aimed at tackling violent crime, protecting young people, and giving stronger safeguards to victims and frontline workers.
